PCS Move to Corpus Christi TX

Have you received your orders?

Congratulations! Whether it is your first or 50th order, a PCS move is always challenging and stressful. Even moving within the same city is difficult!

Your mind is probably running at high speed now, thinking of what to do, where to live, how your family will adjust, and what it’ll be like in your new workplace.

What is a PCS move?

A Permanent Change of Station (PCS) move is basically a military relocation between your current duty station to another, or between your final duty station and home of record upon your retirement or discharge.

There are several types of PCS orders, and each of them has their own special rules and regulations. Regardless of the type of PCS order you are in receipt of, you must know what allowances you are eligible for.

Among the many types of PCS orders are accompanied or unaccompanied PCS overseas, PCS to same geographic area, change of a ship’s homeport or unit location, PCS with temporary duty en route, etc. Before I discuss your PCS move to Corpus Christi TX, I will first cover the basic allowances you can expect to see in most situations. This will help you understand what to expect as soon as you receive a PCS order.

Usually, the government is the one that pays most of the costs associated with a PCS move. If you have any costs not reimbursed, you can still claim them on your taxes. As you make your PCS move to Corpus Christi TX, take note of the travel allowances you are eligible to receive before your move.

Here are some of the most common reimbursed travel allowances for military men like you:

  • Personal and dependent travel

Most of the time, the government provides military men and their dependents transportation allowance from one duty station to another. If you are making a PCS move to Corpus Christi TX, expect the government to either issue you a ticket for a common carrier or provide you money to travel via your privately owned vehicle.

The government also usually pays per diem, which includes your meals and lodging allowance throughout your number of authorized travel days between your current location and your new location.

  • Household goods and vehicle shipment

Since you are making a military move, you are expected to ship all your personal belongings from your current location. As you make your PCS move, the government will authorize you to ship all your stuff from one duty station to another but with a weight limit that is based on your rank and family status.

The government may also authorize you to ship or store your personal vehicle, depending on your new location.

  • Dislocation allowance

This allowance will partially reimburse you should you incur additional expenses during your relocation.

  • Temporary lodging reimbursement

As you look for a new home in Corpus Christi TX, the government will partially reimburse you for the costs you may incur during your house hunting. This temporary lodging reimbursement may also cover all your expenses while you and your family live in temporary quarters as you transition from your old location to your new location.
